Girl, you need an attitude adjustment​.

Yes, you read that right, you my friend need an attitude adjustment! It’s okay, you’re not the only one. I need one too, that is why I am writing this.

See, it has been a rough year. Between my husband being gone for most the year, health issues, loss of loved ones, injuries, totaling my newly paid off car, not getting into Law School, having to find a completely new dream, a drastic pay loss, my son breaking both his wrists and so much more. It has been really easy for me to focus on the negative. Because negativity can bring us down quicker than anything can lift us up.

It’s not that positivity is unattainable, it is just easier to go negative. I know not the most uplifting post, but it needs to be said.

“You are absolutely allowed to have negative thoughts. You are allowed to feel those emotions, but you are NOT allowed to let those thoughts cripple you.”

Now that I have completely lost you or gained your attention, here are a few things I do to help give myself an attitude adjustment.

  1. Phone a friend

    Calling my best friends has helped me off the ledge (figuratively not literally) many times. Sometimes we are so wrapped up in the negative we can not see any positive even if it is staring you in the face. So, I talk about it with the people I trust. With people who know me better than I know myself. It works every time.

  2. Workout or meditate

    I have mentioned before working out is my mental health exercise more than it is about physical fitness. I need to work out. It is how I process emotions. When you are not an externally emotional person you need an outlet. Working out is mine. If you don’t like to workout try mindfulness exercise or just be still.

  3. Write down all the good in your life

    When talking to my friends and working out is not helping enough I write down everything good in my life. It changes my perspective and helps me see that even though totally my car was really shitty, I walked away from the accident with a scratch. No one was hurt and it is just a replaceable thing that was lost. It really changes my perspective and helps me practice an attitude of gratitude as opposed to my ugly twin sister negative Nancy.

  4. Take a walk in nature

    Once I completed steps 1-3 taking a walk with my pups takes away all the remaining negativity. I get to be out in nature and feel fresh air on my face. I hear carefree birds chirping and the wind rustling the leaves. When I am having a really rough time, I go to the beach. The ocean seems to always cure my blues away.
